Hans Peter Obwaller from Austria and Tour Transalp winner of 2010 was also succesfull at the MTB Open Maraton and won the 3rd place in the middle distance of 65 km (1st place in the category Master 40).
Until approximately km 30 he was just 50 seconds behind the first placed, but due to a misdirection of the leading motorbike he lost at least 3 minutes.

" The MTB Open Maraton of Gran Canaria is a nice event and a good start for the cycling season. Perfect weather conditions at all times and a challenging route. For the first time I rid a 29 fully, the Cannondale 29er Scalpel Carbon 2. Therefore I was able to gain a lead during the fast parts of the track. Unfortunately I lost some minutes because of the misdirection of the leading motorbike, but nevertheless I could finish third!

It was a honor for me to be again part of the Team Free Motion Cannondale! I am already looking forward to 2013!"


In total 18 riders of Free Motion Cannondale took part in the MTB Open Maraton and finished successfully as „best team of the bikefestival 2012“.
